Microsoft 365 services won't work with Outlook 2007 and 2010 after November

You can no longer put off moving from Outlook 2007 and 2010 to a more up-to-date version.

What is happening and what do you need to do

The deadline for approaching for those people connecting Outlook 2007 and 2010 for Windows to Office 365 and Microsoft 365 services. From November 1, 2021, older versions of Outlook will no longer be able to connect to these services. Once the deadline has passed you’ll need to be running a minimum of Outlook 2013 SP1 and to be honest even this is very very old

The deadline has been widely publicised by Microsoft for many months, but they are giving people another heads up to make sure that they can move to a newer version of Outlook in time. As Microsoft explain it “ out customer support team is reaching out to tenants that still use Outlook 2007 and 2010 and advising them on what they need to do”

Microsoft is cutting off support for older versions of Outlook to improve the security of the Office365 platform. Support for other aspects such as basic authentication is also ending as Microsoft 365 moves to more modern authentication protocols. These newer protocols are more secure but require up-to-date versions of Outlook.

If you are an Office365 subscriber and your subscription includes the apps then simply log into https://portal.office.com and download the latest version. A quick way to tell if you have access is by how much you pay. If you’re paying £3.80 per month per user then you won’t have the apps and if you’re paying £9.40 or more then you most likely do.
